Community Poll Review - February 2025

How do you think you did on this quiz? Let's review the questions together below:

1️⃣
Which of these EIPs improve the staking experience on Ethereum?

Slated for early April 2025, Pectra is Ethereum’s largest upgrade yet, introducing a total of 11 EIPs. Three of them enhance the staking experience:

  • EIP-7251: Raises the max effective balance, allowing larger validators to consolidate stakes.
  • EIP-7002: Enables execution-layer-triggered exits for greater withdrawal flexibility.
  • EIP-6110: Moves validator deposits on-chain, cutting activation time from ~12 hours to ~13 minutes.
2️⃣
What will be the max validator's effective balance after the Pectra upgrade?

A validator's max effective balance will increase to 2,048 ETH under EIP-7251, bringing key benefits:

  • Efficiency: Large stakers can consolidate ETH into fewer validators, reducing operational complexity and redundant infrastructure.
  • Network Optimization: A smaller validator set (currently 1.04M) reduces P2P messages, easing strain on Ethereum’s consensus layer.
  • Flexibility: Stakers with 32 ETH can compound rewards and stake in smaller increments instead of waiting to accumulate another full 32 ETH.
3️⃣
How quickly can a validator be activated after they have deposited a minimum stake of 32 ETH after Pectra?

A validator can be activated in ~13 minutes post-Pectra, after staking 32 ETH, down from ~12 hours pre-Pectra.

This improvement comes from EIP-6110, which shifts validator deposit handling to the execution layer, eliminating the need for proposer voting.

4️⃣
What are the improvements proposed in EIP-7002: Execution layer triggerable exits?

EIP-7002 introduces key improvements:

  • Validators can trigger withdrawals directly from their withdrawal credentials.
  • Validators can exit without relying on the active key owner.
  • Smart contract accounts can be set as withdrawal credentials.
