Community Poll Review - April 2024

How do you think you did on this quiz? Let's review the questions together below:

1️⃣
What is the motivation for introducing the EIP-4844 upgrade to Ethereum?

EIP-4844 aims to alleviate Ethereum's high transaction fees by providing an interim solution that complements the ongoing development of rollups and the eventual implementation of full data sharding, thereby improving the scalability and usability of the Ethereum network.

2️⃣
What difference does it make by posting data to blobs?

  • Data that is posted to blobs are not permanently stored on Ethereum, therefore it doesn't have to pay a high storage fee
  • Blobs also operate in a separate fee market whereas the gas price will not be affected by network congestions caused by non-blob transactions
  • Data posted to blobs are verified that it exists and available by the validators on the Beacon chain, and will be pruned after 18 days by default
  • The legitimate data need only be stored by any one entity, and its authenticity can be verified against the KZG commitment that is stored on Ethereum
3️⃣
How is the blob gas price determined?

The blob gas price mechanism is similar to EIP-1559. The gas price:

  • adjusts based on the target blob count (currently 3 blobs) from the previous block
  • adjusts up to ±12.5% relative to the target blob count from the previous block
  • stays the same if the blob count from the previous block is at the target of 3
4️⃣
What is the current max number of blobs that can be included in a block?

Currently, a maximum of 6 blobs can be included in a block, which amounts to a total blob size of 768 KB.
